Years ago computers used to be looked at as a asset by many now they're getting to the point of having no profitability, no value and almost throw away because you can buy a desktop for $299. PC repairs and upgrades are becoming less and less, but maintenance on PCs and servers still needs to be done.

Windows 2000/2003, Windows 98, Windows 2000 & Windows XP and even the new VISTA has tons of security patches/fixes, driver updates and defrag/temp files need to be addressed. Hardware trends are bigger, better & faster for alot less money, but someone still needs to get software, anti-virus & anti-spyware on them and integrate their computers into their work environment.

I.T. Consulting has had it's ups and downs. Looking over the past 10 years in business I found that competition hasn't been really against individuals (Sole-Proprietors or LLCs) or consulting firms it's been the trend of price & directions of outsourcing/insourcing.

GeekSquad (Best Buy's Computer People) hasn't really hurt my business, in fact, I've gained a few clients because there are still things that they can't do. Geeksoncall and other franchise geek companies like Friendly Computers have great people and sometimes great skill sets; however, they pay out franchise fees and tons of advertising which affects their profitability.
